How Agoda commission and fees work
Agoda doesn't always send a clean "commission" number the way some OTAs do — it works off a net rate and a sell rate, and the gap between them is effectively the commission. Here's what that means for your payout, and separately, what guests mean when they ask about an Agoda "fee."
Net rate vs sell rate, in plain terms
Agoda works with two numbers on the same room night: the sell rate is the total price the guest sees and pays, including Agoda's commission; the net rate is what your property actually receives after that commission is taken out. If your sell rate is 1,000 and Agoda's commission is 18%, your net rate is roughly 820 — the difference is the commission, even though Agoda's own paperwork may not label it as a single line item called "commission."
This is also why Agoda's statements can look structured differently from Booking.com's or Expedia's: some bookings run on a straightforward commission/agency setup where Agoda's price mirrors your published rate under parity, while other arrangements work closer to a net-rate or wholesale model, where Agoda controls the resale price around a net amount it pays you. Which one applies to a given booking depends on your market and contract — check your own Partner Hub (YCS) rather than assuming.
Illustrative commission range
Published ranges vary by market, model and contract. The figure below is illustrative, measured on our own customers' properties — not Agoda's rate card and not a quote for your property.
| Measure | Illustrative range (our data) | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Typical commission | ~18–31% | Varies by market, room category and whether your contract runs commission or net-rate style |
Treat your own Partner Hub (YCS) contract terms as the source of truth for your property.
Why Agoda sends no commission field — and how we derive it anyway
Unlike some channels, Agoda's booking data doesn't always include an explicit commission amount — it sends the sell rate and the net (payout) rate, and leaves the commission implicit. To know what Agoda actually charged on a given reservation, you have to subtract the net amount from the sell amount yourself, booking by booking, rather than reading a single number off the voucher.
A guest question worth answering here: the Agoda 7-Eleven fee
This part is for guests, not property owners — it comes up often enough in Thai search that it's worth a direct answer.
- Paying for an Agoda booking at a 7-Eleven (or similar counter-service point) is just a cash payment method — you take your booking reference to the counter and pay the total shown.
- "Tax and fees" shown at checkout is usually VAT plus any resort/city fees the property or Agoda applies — not a separate charge for using 7-Eleven.
Not generally true
- There is no standard extra "7-Eleven surcharge" on top of the price Agoda already shows you before you choose a payment method — if your total changed after picking 7-Eleven, re-check the booking screen rather than assuming it's a fixed fee.
How Prime Host handles this
Commission derived automatically
Prime Host calculates Agoda's real commission per booking by comparing the sell and net amounts itself, even though Agoda doesn't send a commission field — so you don't have to subtract it by hand.
Real commission, not a rate card guess
The number on your Prime Host dashboard reflects what Agoda actually kept on your own reservations, not a generic published range.
Frequently asked questions
Why doesn't my Agoda voucher show a commission amount?
Agoda sends a sell rate (what the guest paid) and a net rate (what you're paid), without always labeling the gap as "commission." You derive the commission by subtracting net from sell.
What's the difference between Agoda's net rate and sell rate?
Sell rate is the guest-facing total including Agoda's commission. Net rate is what the property actually receives after that commission. The difference is the commission.
How much commission does Agoda charge?
It varies by contract and market. From our own measured data, it typically runs roughly 18–31%. That's illustrative, not a quote for your property — check your own Partner Hub (YCS).
What does "tax and fees" mean on an Agoda booking (ภาษีและค่าธรรมเนียม agoda)?
For the guest, it's usually VAT plus any resort or city fee the property or Agoda applies on top of the room rate — not a separate charge tied to a payment method.
Does paying at 7-Eleven add an extra fee to an Agoda booking?
Not as a standard, published surcharge — it's a cash payment option. If a total looks different after selecting it, re-check the booking screen rather than assuming a fixed fee applies.
