How Expedia commission works
Expedia commission depends partly on who collects the guest's payment — Expedia or your property — and partly on your Partner Central program. It's a different mechanism from TAAP, which is a travel-agent commission program, not a hotel's cost of selling on Expedia.
Expedia Collect vs Hotel Collect
Expedia Collect means Expedia charges the guest directly at the time of booking, then pays your property its share afterwards, net of commission. Hotel Collect means your property charges the guest directly at check-in or check-out, and Expedia separately invoices you for its commission. Which model applies is set per rate plan in your Partner Central contract, not something you choose booking by booking.
The practical difference for you is cash flow and reconciliation: under Hotel Collect you're paid by the guest in full and owe Expedia commission afterwards; under Expedia Collect you receive a net payout from Expedia itself.
Illustrative commission range
Rates vary by Partner Central program, room category, market and promotions. The figure below is illustrative, measured on our own customers' properties — not Expedia's rate card and not a quote for your property.
| Measure | Illustrative range (our data) | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Typical commission | ~15% | Varies by Expedia Partner Central program and market |
Treat your own Partner Central contract as the source of truth for your property.
TAAP is a different thing entirely
TAAP (Travel Agent Affiliate Program) is Expedia's program for independent travel agents, not a hotel distribution channel. Under TAAP, travel agents book Expedia's consumer inventory on behalf of their clients and earn a commission from Expedia for doing so — the opposite direction of money to the commission your property pays when a guest books you directly through Expedia. If you're searching "Expedia TAAP commission" as a property owner, you've likely found the wrong program: TAAP commission is what Expedia pays an agent, not what you pay Expedia.
How Prime Host handles this
Real commission, measured not guessed
Prime Host calculates Expedia's commission per reservation from your own bookings, accounting for whether it ran Expedia Collect or Hotel Collect, instead of a single assumed rate.
Recovered reservations
If Expedia fails to deliver a reservation to your calendar, Prime Host can pull it back from Expedia's own queue rather than leaving the booking missing.
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between Expedia Collect and Hotel Collect?
Expedia Collect: Expedia charges the guest and pays your property net of commission. Hotel Collect: your property charges the guest directly and Expedia invoices you for commission separately. It's set per rate plan in your contract.
How much commission does Expedia charge hotels?
It varies by contract and market. From our own measured data it typically runs around 15%. That's illustrative, not a quote for your property — check your Partner Central contract.
Is Expedia TAAP the same as my hotel's Expedia commission?
No. TAAP is a travel-agent affiliate program — Expedia pays agents commission for booking its inventory. That's separate from, and runs in the opposite direction to, the commission your property pays Expedia when a guest books you.
Does Expedia commission apply to taxes and fees?
This depends on your specific contract and market — check your Partner Central agreement rather than assuming a single rule applies everywhere.
Can I choose Expedia Collect or Hotel Collect myself?
It's set at the rate plan level in your Partner Central contract rather than chosen per booking — talk to your Expedia account manager about changing it.
