Real commission, measured per channel from your own bookings

Instead of a number you type into a settings page, commission here is calculated from what each channel actually charged on your bookings — weighted by booking value, and honest when there isn't enough data yet.

How commission is measured

Weighted by booking value

Commission is calculated as a weighted average across your bookings on a channel, so a handful of small bookings don't skew the number the way a simple average would.

Needs at least 3 bookings

A channel needs at least 3 bookings before Real Commission shows a measured rate. Below that, there isn't enough data to trust the number.

Shows 'unknown', not 0%

If there isn't enough data yet, the channel shows as unknown rather than 0% — a 0% commission channel and a channel we haven't measured yet are very different things, and we don't collapse them into the same number.

Works for Agoda too

Agoda doesn't send a commission field on its bookings. Real Commission still produces a measured rate for Agoda by working from the booking totals you do have.

What this looks like in practice

On our own properties, measured commission has landed around a median of 18% for Booking.com, with a range from about 15% to 30% depending on the rate plan and promotions in play. These are illustrations from properties we operate, not a promise for every account — your own measured rate is what shows on your dashboard.

What Real Commission does and does not do

What it does

  • Measures commission from your actual bookings, per channel, instead of a number you entered once and forgot about
  • Weights the calculation by booking value so it reflects real spend
  • Shows 'unknown' honestly when a channel doesn't have enough bookings yet

Limit

  • It cannot show a rate for a channel with fewer than 3 bookings — there just isn't enough data

Frequently asked questions

Why does commission need at least 3 bookings?

Fewer than that and a single unusual booking could swing the number far from what you actually pay on average.

Why does Agoda show a rate if Agoda doesn't send commission data?

Real Commission works from the booking totals that are available, even without a dedicated commission field, to produce a measured figure.

What does 'unknown' mean?

It means there isn't enough booking history yet to measure a reliable rate — it's a different state from 0% commission.

Is the commission number the same as what I type on the pricing page?

No. This is measured from actual bookings, separate from any commission percentage you might enter manually elsewhere.

Are the 15–30% Booking.com figures guaranteed for my property?

No. They are a range we've measured on properties we operate, shown as an illustration. Your dashboard shows your own measured rate.
